Character History
While traveling with her wizard parents, a couple of botanists from Fiore, Holly experienced the greatest loss of her life when the airship her uncle developed went down. Both of her parents were lost in the fiery crash but somehow she lived, a girl who was no more than eight at the time. When the cinders had dissipated, the girl was pulled from the wreckage by Ambrose Tropius.
Ambrose was a jungle dragon, large in size but deep in thought. He was in many ways like an old man yet also could act like a child at times. He wasn't one to socialize with other dragons and preferred to spend his time in the jungle he called home, researching the properties of the plants there. In short, he was a botanist just as Holly's parents had been.
Although the girl retained some of her memories of the wreck, she worked hard to shut them out and get on with her life, trying to return the favor to the dragon who saved her. Holly tried to follow in his footsteps as he was kind and wise, two traits she admired in any living being. When she tried to refer to him as her father, the dragon became angry and lectured her on how impossible that was, telling her to instead refer to him as teacher. In the end, she gave him the nickname 'professor'.
One day, after she had been with him for a couple years, the professor told her he would be leaving for a long time. He didn't give her any details and refused to tell her anything more than not to follow him and that would be the time for her to make her own way in the world. That day came soon for them. Holly did as she was told, leaving behind the jungle home and returning to human civilization with many new skills, talents, and quirks that would remind others of dragons. Although she missed him and was sad he left, the girl tried to grow up in her own way without him. Thankfully, she was clever enough to seek out work for herself here and there and thus lived well, but there was always that missing part of her she wanted to find.
Roleplay Sample
The white clad blond wandered across the barren landscape. The ground cracked from dryness and dust stirred at the slightest movement in the air. It was no wonder she had been called to this forsaken place. The land had died and left the people with no way to care for themselves. It was distressing no matter how you looked at it. Surely, there was still life in this land, somewhere. Even the tiniest bit could serve to fuel a huge reaction and bring the world back to life again.
"How did this even happen? What irresponsibility led to this disaster?" Holly tisked to herself and made a note in the back of her mind to lecture the people about how to properly care for the land around them.
This wasn't the first time the young woman had to bring back landscape from the dead. Since she was a small child, she had been doing this exact same thing. Sometimes it was a small burst to help crops grow better in blistering heat or freezing cold, but it was usually more like this place, neglected.
"When people neglect the plants for a world for two long, everything dies." This mantra was something Holly had muttered many times over. It was a lesson learned earlier in her life in comparison to, say, a village elder who lets this happen.
Then she felt it, a spark of life below the surface, that little glimmer of hope that told her this place was not a lost cause. Kneeling down, Holly placed a hand on the ground to guide up a patch of grass. Then, she stood and began to spread it in such a way one might think she was conducting a symphony. It took some time but the green over powered the brown, life had returned to the forsaken land.
"Once again, the day was saved by resilient plant life." A small smile spread on her face as she observed her good work. There was nothing in this world quite like a job well done when working against the odds.
Before she could turn and walk away, the village elder approached. He was strangely young for an elder, no more than about forty. They had told her his father died and left him in charge. "Ah, good work. If you could just give our crops a boost before you go that would be great."
Holly's green eyes turned to the man, a look of disdain bearing down on him like a weight. "If you promise to properly care for the land in your charge, then sure. However, I do not want to be called back. You will keep a water supply for emergencies, you will store seeds properly, and you will try harder to educate yourselves."
The man was taken aback by this young woman scolding him. It took him a moment to regain his composure before answering. "Ye... Yes Miss Tropius." With a smile, Holly took her payment and was on her way. Hopefully, to never return.
